A Tired Mothers Prayer

Dear Lord, I have had a bad day. I am tired. I am sweaty. I am gross. I am hungry and I am tired. I feel like poo, inside and out. Why did today end up like it did? I woke up with good intentions, I kept a good attitude through it all.

I juiced my breakfast even though I wanted bacon and eggs. I did what felt like an hour of Zumba even though I wanted to nap on the couch. I gave lots of hugs and kisses and tickles even though I wanted to be on Facebook.

I did load after load of laundry and dishes even though I will have to do load after load of both tomorrow. I picked up toy after toy even though I will have to pick up toy after toy tomorrow. I wiped butt after butt even though I will have to wipe butt after butt tomorrow. I cuddled every sad moment and kissed every boo boo even though I will have to do so tomorrow.

I am running thin lord.

Today I took something out of my child’s mouth and threw it behind the couch because I had already walked over there a million times. Today I went pee and shut the door, I just let them cry outside. Today my husband took the sink drainer thing out of the hole so the sink got clogged, today I sent my husband a mean text while at work. Today I got frustrated with my kids, a lot. Today I was snappy with my kids, a lot. Today my kids watched way too much tv. Today I didn’t get any of my chores done. Today I think i’ve heard “mommy” at-least a million times. Today I was too sore to play with anyone. Today my son bit me for the first time. Today my husband will not be home for bedtime.

Today is the only day that I will feel the way I feel right now, in this moment. Today is the day I need you more than ever. I need you to fill me with peace and love and forgiveness and patience and mercy…Today, I need a lot lord.

Today I am going to throw a pitty party. Today I am not going to make good eating choices. Today the kids are going to sleep at 7:30 on the dot. Today I will take a extra long hot shower.

Lord I pray you help me. Help me and every other mommy out there feeling exactly like this. I pray that you lift her up, make her realize how beautiful she is. I pray that you remind her that those beautiful children she works so hard for, those are just loans. I pray that you remind me and every other tired mommy that we are loved, we are important, and we are doing a fantastic job. I pray that every mommy gets a nice long, child-free break. I pray that every husband is kind and understanding.  I pray that you let every mommy have a better day tomorrow. Most importantly I pray that you never ever let any mommy believe what the enemy is telling her.

I want to thank you lord for my “loans”. I want to thank you for my good attitude today, most days I am quick to snap. I know that was you keeping me strong. I love you, thank you for listening.

5 Easy (And Good) Juices

So I see a lot of talk about juice recipes. It sounds silly to me considering all you have to do is put fruits and veggies together, I mean its not like a normal recipe where it can possibly come out as a disaster. Oh wait, yes, yes it can. It is entirely possible to go way to ham and create a juice that tastes awful and is then deemed “undrinkable”. Now if your a regular juicer than you know how horrible of a feeling it is to have made “undrinkable” juice. Its a waste of time and money, so here are my top 5 easy, peasy, lemon squeezy juice recipes.

**Note: When I juice I try to go by the 1:1 rule. 1 Fruit-1 Veggie**

#5

3 Small Apples, 1 Stick Celery, 1/2 Lemon

Tip: When juicing something with a peel, specifically citrus, you need to take into consideration you will be tasting the peel way more than the fruit. So I always peel them first. If your in a rush, cut the “lemon” in half. Place the cut part down on the cutting board and cut the peel off, kinda like you would a potato. This saves so much time.

#4

3-4 Carrot, 1 Big Apple

#3

1 Big Sweet Potato, 3 Carrot, Mystery Veggie

Tip: This recipe is amazing for hiding veggies you don’t want to taste. Don’t go ham and put 12 radish’s in there, but in general, its pretty good for hiding a little of something gross.

#2

4 Carrot, Kale, 1 Grapefruit

#1

1 Large Green Apple, 2 Small Red Apples, 1/2 Lemon, 1 in Ginger

Tip: If you have Eczema like me this is an amazing way to hide the ginger. Ginger helps with nausea and Eczema.

All of these recipes are just what I personally like. You may or may not have success with them, but that’s what juicing is all about. Find what works for you, what you like, then get a little mad scientist and start putting whatever you want in there. I like to juice what my body needs at that time. If i’m low on fiber I will juice broccoli, brussels sprouts, raspberries, or pears. Depending on why you are juicing you may need to juice a certain something every day, I have to juice ginger. You will find your routine and get what works for you down. Just stay strong, remember why you started juicing, and always….

Juice on!

A Thank You to My Husband…

So for those of you who don’t know, I have been having several major health problems that have made me depend on my husband for a lot. Through this tough time my husband has pulled through now more than ever. He has completely stepped up and made it to where when i’m not feeling good I don’t have to lift a finger. He lets me sleep in every morning. He gets up with the kids all night and then gets them up and changes their booties in the morning, so I won’t have to bend over.

I just want to let you know Michael that I won’t forget about all of the amazing things you are doing. One day your going to get injured or sick and I am going to take care of you. All of the times you have to put the kids to bed, or get them up in the morning, all of the times you have to stay home on Thursday nights, all of the times you have to get the kids out of the car, your incredible. God has truly blessed me with an amazing husband and our kids with an amazing daddy.

I love watching you “Super Mother Slam” Andy after work, or paint Autaum’s nails when she asks. Your our superhero daddy, we need you. So if anyone happens to see my husband, at any point in time, will you please just give him a pat on the back or maby some words of encouragement. It takes ALOT to run a household by yourself, go to work, and take care of 2 kids and another adult.

Thank you daddy bear.

What is Juicing REALLY Like?

So one of the most common questions I get when I tell people I am doing a juice cleanse is “What is juicing REALLY like?”. I’m guessing people don’t think juicing can be this good to be true. Its not. Its really not. I mean if a stranger walked up to you on the sidewalk and said “I can sure all of your illness’s with just fruits and veggies” you would be like “How did you escape?”. So here is the complete honest truth about juicing.

**WARNING: WE ABOUT TO GET REAL PERSONAL**

So the first thing that happened to me was I started pooping, like all the time. I no longer have like 1 or 2 big poops a day, I now have million super fast, tiny poops a day. Its pretty inconvenient but ya gotta just deal with it. Your poop will also turn to juice, just puttin it out there. The next thing that started happening to me was that I got gassy, Oh my lord was I gassy. The good thing was that the gas only lasted a couple of days.

You will also start to go through the withdraw process. Lets break this down, the food that you have been feeding your body is not food. I honestly am not sure what it is. Big food companies put chemicals into our “food” to make us addicted. They want us to crave it and spend more and more on it. So when you stop feeding your body that crap its like you stopped giving your body your drug. So your going to be anxious/depressed, moody, headaches. Your going to feel like your dying.

Hang in there. It only lasts about a week, from what I understand. Everyone’s experiences will differ. People juice for many different reasons. Some juice to loose weight, some juice to heal themselves, and some juice just to be healthy. So depending on why your juicing, you will go through different things. I can tell you that my juicing experience has sucked so bad because my thyroid has been acting up almost all day every day, and it will. You will start to feel better. My husband is juicing to lose weight so his biggest challenge is the cravings and the withdraw symptoms. You just have to keep on keepin on, stick with your juice.

Another huge truth about juicing is that it just freaking sucks a duck. Eating for pleasure is no longer a thing. You have to completely retrain your mind about the way you look at food. When your about to eat something ask yourselves these questions…

  1. Am I eating because i’m hungry or am I eating because i’m bored?
  2. What is this going to do for my body? What am I going to get from this?
  3. An hour from now am I going to be proud of myself an hour from now for eating this or am I going to be disappointed?

You also have to reschedule your day around what your going to eat. So if there’s no where for you to buy fresh juice around where your going to be you’ll have to pack you some juice. I have had great success with a old breast milk lunch box. Its tiny and compact and it just looks like a lunchbox. They say juice is best out of glass but I prefer to buy bottled water and just reuse the bottle so I can throw it away. I don’t want to have to bring home a water bottle that’s had old juice in it all day.

So in my opinion, that’s what juicing is REALLY like.

Now i’m going to lecture you with statistics that should make you start juicing like tomorrow.

More than two-thirds of Americans age 2-20 are considered obease

The estimated annual medical cost of obesity in the U.S. is $147 billion

African Americans have the highest obesity rates followed by Hispanics then whites

Heart disease has taken over 611,000,000 lives in America alone

If you would like more information about juicing I want to encourage everyone to watch this documentary. This is where I got my inspiration. Please watch, I guarantee it will change the way you look at food.

Tips For Kids Who Chew

So weather you kid has SPD or not, chances are they have chewed on something in your house and you can not seem to get them to stop. Now if your child does have SPD, chances are they chew on everything all of the time. Ah the joys of motherhood. So I have compiled my favorite ways to become a momma ninja and show that kiddo who’s boss!

Over my years many months of therapies I have gathered a little incite on why our kiddos are doing this. Your kiddo can have high or low sensitivity in their mouth. When your kiddo has low sensitivity they don’t feel things happening in there the same way we do. My daughter had a speech delay because she wasn’t feeling her tongue and teeth as much as she should. She couldn’t move her mouth fluently to make words. When she tried it didn’t come out the right way, we wouldn’t understand her, causing her to get discouraged and give up. When your kids has high sensitivity in their mouth they may feel everything ten million times more intense than we ever could. A cold sore could feel like a gaping hole in her mouth. A mildly warm bottle could feel like magma. Depending on the day your child could be super bothered by these issues or not seem to notice at all. Thats the beauty of SPD, it has a lot riding on environmental factors. To be honest with you there are some days that I can do all of the therapies, and remember every single tiny detail and my child still freaks out. Once you play around with different therapies and ideas you and your child WILL figure out what works for ya’ll. I am not promising to have all of the answers, hell there are some days that I am like “I will do anything you want. Do you not like this shirt? Is it my face? I can change my face if you want just pleas stop screaming at me”. Yea no one ever said motherhood was always pretty.

Pacifier/Binky/SheShe- So my daughter is getting to be too old to wear around her favorite “SheShe”, it doesn’t bother me honestly, it’s just not very socially acceptable. I know that there’s also potential to mess up your kids teeth with these things. I got super desperate and honestly a little crazy after I caught my son eating his amber teething necklace like a candy necklace. I ran into the nearest Walgreens and was shocked to find pacifiers that ranged from 24-35 months (which my son is in that range). So if your little is young enough to get away with a pacifier that try to make sure it is in the right age range. I also have a few great alternatives. The first one is a “Chewy Chams” necklace. Basically its a necklace that you can put different shaped rubber , animals on and your kid can chew on them as they please. This is defiantly a more socially acceptable way to let your child still have their favorite comfort thing. A cheaper alternative that I have tried, and loved, is taking a reusable straw and simply tying thin ribbon through it to make a necklace. I love this idea, it has worked super duper well for me every way i’ve tried it. Unfortunately, Autuam has lost all of hers and I never got to snap a pic. I have cut the straws into links, kinda like noodles, and made a pattern with them just tied like a regular necklace. I have also bent the straw in half, so the tip has a lot of the rubber stuff so its tougher to chew, and simply tied at the top and once again to make a necklace. There are so many ways you could do this. I have also tied different color/texture/length ribbons all through the “beads”, that was Autaums favorite. You can find these straws at Wal-Mart in the isle that has like kids plates and water bottles for about $4. I will post links to all of these below.

So if you don’t know, i’m an old fashioned mom. So when I was growing up I remember we had a giant Lab who kept chewing my moms shoes and the couch. My dad taught her a lesson by rubbing hot sauce or jalapeno on it. I am for sure not telling you to do that to your kids, that crosses the border between punishment and cruelty, but vinegar is perfectly on the side of punishment. Autaum has chewed on her crib from before I could remember, she has chewed into the wood. So all you have to do is take a little bit on a rag and rub it on to the part where your kid chews. This way your not punishing your child doing something they probably can’t control but at the same time letting your child know that that’s not ok.

So what do you do when your kid has already chewed giant holes into the wood of her bed? Simple. All you need is 1 yard of any color/pattern you chose fleece, scissors, and about a hour. You can buy a yard of fleece at Wal-Mart for about $3. So what you do is you cut a strip of the fabric as long as whatever it is you want to cover. Make sure that you cut it wide enough that you will be able to tie it. So if it takes 2 inches to cover the pole add another inch or two to be able to tie it around.

ffd

So where I stopped cutting is how wide the bed pole is around.

Then you cut strips all the way down, make sure that they are about half a inch apart.

Next you simply tie the strip around the bed pole. Its that simple. This does take forever and a day, but it costs $3. Heres what it looks like all done.

fffff

So here’s a toddler bed.

ff

Here’s a crib.

When it gets gross you can whipe clean with a soapy rag and a little water. This way lasts for about 2 months, depending on what your little ones are like. When it gets super gross, or you baby decides to play in their own poo, you simply cut it off and throw away. You will have to keep redoing this every couple months, but you get way faster at it and you only have to buy the material once.

If there is not a crafty bone in your body or your just super lazy you can also buy a crib bumper and just tie it around the top of the crib. These kind of bumpers work best.

**SIDE NOTE**

When Andy was a baby, he had no care for his face or well being. He would throw such a fit sometimes that he would be standing up jumping and thrashing around all at once. I always worried about him hitting his face on the hard wood. I bought pipe insulation at our local hardware store and put it over the bar and then tied the material around it. A pool noodle works good too but their only available like 2 months out of the year.

My last and final tip is a bunch of ways to keep track of your passy/binky/sheshe. All parents have been there when their child cannot find their comfort passy. You will literally start moving furniture trying to find the stupid thing. Here are great things to attach them too:

Cookie Cutter

Stuffed Animal

Good ‘Ol Fashioned Pacifier Holder

b

Or Even, A Dog Toy

No joke we bought that for the dog not realizing elephants were her favorite animal. Realistically you can attach it to almost anything, you could even sew it to their favorite blanket. Thank you so much guys for reading. Feel free to comment with some of your favorite ways to handle a chewer!

Daily Log:Today was such a better day! Thank you Jesus! I have had 2 juices today and a lovely spaghetti dinner with a beautiful couple from church. That was just what I needed. Our pastor did a sermon one day about how when someone is going through a loss or a hard time the best thing you can do for them is to listen. That’s what they did. It was amazing. I feel so much better about myself and this whole journey. I think its safe to say I am slowly regaining my confidence and security in knowing that i’m making the right choices. Tomorrow is looking brighter and brighter. We must never forget “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. Oh yea can I brag that we have officially made it one week juicing with only 1 meal a day. Not a celebration yet, lets talk this time next week and see how well I made it a whole week with only juice.

Exercise Routine: Baseball Field, 20 Minutes

Daily Log: So today was a pretty lazy, boring day. I went to the grocery store and bought some more apples and carrots. Today, for the first time, I have a juice that didn’t make me nauseous. Yay! This is huge for me. As soon as i thought I was going to have to take a week off God was like #nope. Today I had a sandwich, it was amazing. Juice for dinner. Honestly I don’t really feel any different other than being more tired. That could be the juicing or the thyroid. I don’t know what happened but from around dinner time to bed time I got super duper depressed. I wont go into details, but it was pretty bad. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Juicing Day Number 5

Mood: Happy

Energy Level: 4

Medications:

Symptoms/Severity: Eczema-Low, Back Pain-None, Anxiety-None, Depression-None, Dizziness-None, Nauseous-Mild, Bloated-Mild, Weakness-None, Coldness-Mild, Asthma-None, Fingernail loss- 1/2 A Nail, Dry Skin/Burning Skin-Low, Swollen Neck Glands-Mild

Exercise Routine: None

Daily Log: We got us a brand new, without any problems, juicer! We used it for the first time tonight and it works amazing. I still have not been able to find a juice that does not make me nauseous. So for right now i’m just having to chug all of my juices, which is ok with me. I’m actually surprised i’m not having any problems with my oral fixation. I’m also surprised to find out I am the only one having problems with this cleanse. My husband is loving it, congratulations. The good news is that my eczema is almost completely gone. The ginger must be working! Today was decent, I just hate this juice. That is all…

Juicing Day Number 3

Current Weight: Did not get to weigh

Mood: Happy

Energy Level: Low

Medications:

  • None

Symptoms/Severity: Eczema-Mild/bad (flakey/dry/red patches), Back Pain-Mild, Anxiety-Low, Depression-None, Dizziness-Mild, Nauseous-None, Bloated-Mild, Weakness-Mild, Coldness-Mild, Asthma-None, Fingernail loss- 1/2 A Nail, Dry Skin/Burning Skin-Severe, Swollen Neck Glands-None

Exercise Routine: 30 Minutes of Jogging/Playing

Daily Log: So today we decided to get all mad scientists on our breakfast, terrible idea. The juice was so bad we couldn’t even drink it, but that’s ok because we were late to church anyway so no time to drink. By lunch time we were convinced on Taco Bell but stayed strong and I ate a avocado with lemon juice instead. We have had to change our plan to 2 juiced meals a day and one juice snack until next Saturday. Next Saturday we will resume the 60 day juice detox. Today my symptoms have been terrible. I have to say today I have felt the worse than I have in a long time. It felt like no regulation of my temperature, my hands were so weak they literally hurt.I couldn’t hold Autaum’s hand it hurt so bad, which broke my heart because she really wanted to hold hands. I just feel like i’m dying today. Better yet, I feel like a crack head coming down off of my high…

Organizing Medical Paperwork

So lately with Autaum graduating all of her therapy and us now getting insurance and Andy having that allergic reaction I have accumulated a butt load of medical paperwork. So much so that it is literally just laying all over the house. Last year when I started to have this problem I bought Autaum a folder and put her name on it and that meant that she had her own folder/we no longer had to share ours. But this time around I know a temporary fix won’t cut it.

Note: This DIY will work for Medical Paperwork, School Work, Legal Paperwork, Etc.
